You wouldn’t think the power of persuasion would mean much in marketing, but it is the one tool that most successful businesses use. The whole premise behind delivering a message is getting your potential clients to know who it’s from, remembering it and then acting on it.

You may have noticed that we have started to saturate our market with one of our key phrases.

“We’re more than ink on paper.”

By using the same message over and over again, you can create a sense of familiarity by embedding it into someone’s mind.  Repetition is one of the easiest methods of persuasion. When advertising a message with the same or very similar graphics, but on a variety of different mediums, it becomes a powerful tool in getting your message across.  If you listen to any Politician, you’ll overhear them repeat their key points over and over again, pushing their main message through to your subconscious. This isn’t a new tactic. Businesses have been using repetition marketing for years.

Do any of these some familiar?

  • Got milk?
  • Help, I’ve fallen and I can’t get up.
  • Good to the last drop.
  • Melts in your mouth, not in your hands.
  • Plop, plop, fizz, fizz, oh what a relief it is.

Implementing this type of marketing can be tricking because there is the underlying question as to how many times does it take to get a message through. There is a fine line between when it is successful and when it loses its effectiveness. According to marketing studies, the perfect balance falls somewhere between three and five.

In the book, “Successful Advertising,” by Thomas Smith, he makes the following reflection on the effectiveness of a message:

  • The 1st time people look at it, they don’t see it.
  • The 2nd time, they don’t notice it.
  • The 3rd time, they are aware that it is there.
  • The 4th time, they have a fleeting sense that they’ve seen it before.
  • The 5th time, they read the ad.

It’s the one thing here at Pine Press Printing that we all agree on: messages are more effective when repeated.

So, let us say our message again … “We’re more than ink on paper.”
