Give back to your community.
With Oktoberfest right around the corner, we wanted to take a few minutes to talk about how and why we put so much effort into supporting the Midlands Special Needs Foundation.
Many of you know that Lori, the CEO of Pine Press Printing has a special needs sister whom she lives with and takes care of on a daily basis. Her mother spent her whole life caring for her, and Lori stepped in those shoes once her mother passed away. It was a selfless act of kindness much like how she runs Pine Press Printing and gives back to her community.
Right here in Lexington, we have an organization who strives to treat its special needs adults with the respect and the independence they deserve. It takes a lot of hands and money to run MSNF, and here at Pine Press Printing, we enjoy pulling our resources together and offering to donate all the proceeds from our Silent Auction to support their program.
As a small business, we know it can be a challenge to find the time and resources to commit to making an impact in the community we live in. However, we firmly believe that it takes a whole community becoming involved to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate than us.
Here are a few simple ways you can become involved without having to undertake a huge event as we do with Oktoberfest:
Pull up a Chair
One of the easiest ways you can make a difference is to serve on a community board. Non-profits especially need volunteers who are willing to come together as a whole and help them make sound business decisions.
Sport a Volunteer Lantern
There is power behind becoming a volunteer. Volunteerism shows that you and your company are serious about becoming a part of something bigger for the good of your community. Community events would not be successful for not the help of a group of dedicated volunteers. Find an event that would match your companies vision and reach out to your employees to give back by becoming a vital part of the community by volunteering.
Building Partnerships
If you’re already serving on a community board or volunteering, building partnerships should be a cakewalk. You have made connections with the leading persons in your community. Utilize those relationships to work together on local initiatives.
Donate
Donating coincides with volunteering, as both can be assigned a monetary value (either in the hours spent working or in the amount of dollars given). But donating doesn’t always have to be monetary. It can mean little things like giving an item to our Silent Auction to benefit the Midlands Needs foundation to something bigger like offering your conference room for non-profit board meetings.
By becoming a business who actively becomes involved in their community, you are not only making a name for yourself you are also showing your customers that you care and that goes hand in hand with marketing your business. People want to do business with companies who give back and aren’t all about their bottom line. Step back and take a good look at your business. How can you work “giving back” into your business model?
